Klavaro Troubleshooting
Most Klavaro problems have simple, known causes — a Windows prompt waiting unseen, two layout settings that disagree, a display scaling setting, or the wrong copy of the program. Find your symptom below and follow the fix written for it.
Start here: Klavaro not working
Not sure which problem you have? This start-here checklist runs the five-minute sequence in the right order — restart, open the installed copy, look for a Windows prompt, check the layout selector, then reinstall only if the simple checks fail.
Klavaro won’t open on Windows
You double-click and nothing happens, or the window closes immediately. Usually a security prompt is waiting behind other windows, an extracted copy is being launched instead of the installed one, or the installation needs a clean reinstall.
“Windows protected your PC” (SmartScreen)
The blue SmartScreen warning appears because the genuine installer ships without a paid code-signing certificate. Here is why it shows up, how to click through it with the “More info” and “Run anyway” buttons, and when you should not bypass it.
Text too small on high-DPI screens
On high-resolution displays Klavaro can open with tiny text. The one-minute fix is the Windows high-DPI scaling override — set to “System (Enhanced)” — applied to the Klavaro shortcut or, for a portable copy, to the .exe itself.
Special characters not counting
A character in a lesson never registers — including the µ sign in lesson 42, reported by a user on the SourceForge project page. Workarounds that keep you practising, plus the tests that separate a dead key from an app quirk.
Wrong characters when typing
Press Q, get A? The layout selected inside Klavaro and the Windows input language disagree. Align both selectors — the one in Klavaro’s top-right corner and the one on the Windows taskbar — and the letters match your keyboard again.
Progress and charts not saved
Your history looks empty when you come back. Before assuming it is gone, check that you are running the same copy of the program, signed into the same Windows account, and finishing lessons before you close Klavaro.
Before you reinstall: get a verified copy
If a reinstall is the answer, start from a file you can trust. The download page links the official SourceForge installer and publishes its SHA-256 checksum, and Is Klavaro safe? shows how to verify the checksum before you run anything.
